April 2012 ~ The Spring Is Here & So Is Phoebe!

Hi Everyone & Welcome to our April blog.

So spring is here at long last, we hope you all had a lovely Easter, we had a very busy one! On Easter Sunday we gave a working dog display, & that was followed by a show dog / working display. We do as many demonstrations as we can, all for charities. The dogs love it & so do we. We also judged the fun dog show, it was a fabulous day.

We also got our pol hens the other day , all 15 of them, the dogs think they are brill, they seem quite amused by them.

We had a lovely Easter Monday at the Selby Game fair at Carlton Towers. What a stunning place that is, Ben, Daisy, Aycer & Purdy took part in the
scurries, so they really enjoyed the day. All the dogs are progressing so well with their training, working on their water retrieves, & out over a distance after crossing the water. Daisy really excels at this one, but they all just love it , they are all so thrilled to go training, they would go all day if we let them.

We have a new member in our little family, Phoebe. She is Teal's full sister, we have had her for just over a week, she is so clean like her big sister was, she is completely house broken at 10 weeks old ~ WOW! We will show her when she reaches 6 months old.

Hettie & Teal have had more success in the showring.

February Update & Puppy Pics

Hello everyone , welcome to our February blog.100_2229

Nell is getting back into shape after having her puppies, she is looking really good! She is loving her walks near her new home, there are so many places to go & the river Dove to swim in. She is having a wonderful time & she is now starting her training. Nell hasn’t forgotten a thing, but then she is an exceptional dog & the perfect mother!
Ben, Daisy Purdy & Aycer & Kim have all been training almost every day & are working really well. We have concentrated on direction at a distance, they have also been working on blinds, we must admit they all have done fantastically well.

100_2369Kim & Aycer are in season at the moment so we now are looking for studs of the highest quality & health tested with exceptional pedigrees, so the next time they are in season they will be going to stud.
Teal & Hettie have attended a show over the last 3 weeks. They come home with a second place each, so they both did very well. We are at the Yorkshire Gundog Club on Sunday so we hope we do well again. Teal is busy preparing for CRUFTS on Friday 9th March, we are very proud to be attending again for the second year running with her. She is also doing really well with her gundog training, her water retrieves are her favourite.

100_2445Hettie is also doing amazingly well with all of her training, her stop whistle is to die for... brakes on screeching to a sit! She is such a happy little thing, ah bless!
Ida is 10 weeks old now & is totally house trained ~ Wow! She is very much like Nell, she is starting her training now; just a few simple things but she picks things up very quickly. She can sit and is learning to walk at heel in the garden, she is so sweet, her “fave” playpals are Hettie, Teal, Daisy & of course, her Mum.
We all love it so much in the new house, the dogs have so much room to run around in plus the adjoining Country Park, & the River Dove is only 4 minutes walk away.

We hope everyone is keeping well & happy, we will speak soon, have fun with your dogs!

2012 brings new life to Beneldy’s Labradors…

Hi everyone, we trust you all had a good Christmas & new year!
Nellie in the summer before she was in pup!

Well, we had a very busy one, we moved house 2nd December, then some kind person hit my PARKED car on the 7th and that same night Nell went into labour!

The next day 6 precious gifts were born by section ~ 1 yellow dog, 1 black dog & 4 black bitches, oh bless… all were over 1lb at birth!  You’ll be pleased to hear that  mum & puppies are all healthy & were safely delivered.  SO that was our December and now we’re glad that’s over & what a relief!

Our new home is wonderful, the dogs love it and there’s so much room for them to
run around in.  We are looking forward to the Spring, in early April our point of lay chickens arrive, we have ordered 12 of them, they will be free range and will have a large enclosure to keep them our of reach from interested noses.

Now we are nearly at the end of January the puppies are now 6kg each in weight & are huge!  All of them were reserved before birth and their new owners are eagerly awaiting the day they collect them.  All bar one will be leaving us for their new homes around 3 & 4th of Feb, it will be a very hard week-end for us, many tears will be shed.

We are keeping a black bitch to show ourselves, we have named her Ida.  When she reaches 6
months old she will begin her show career & join Teal & half sister Hettie in the show ring.  But that’s a long way off yet, however she is already is being shown how to stand & is a natural.. Ida stands square on all 4 feet and is always wagging her tail, bless her!

We have not forgotten about out other dogs and have worked hard to keep them occupied despite all eyes being on the puppies.  We have been out training with the working dogs, practising blinds & on long distance control, they are doing so well and hardly make a mistake.

Well we must go now, mouths to feed and time to make the most of the pups before it’s their time to leave us.  Thank you for reading our blog, we hope everyone has a lovely time with their dogs.  Pics of Nell & puppies on very shortly.

Take care everyone!

A Quick Update For The Start Of November

Here comes November and the cold weather ~ it seems like Autumn has vanished!  But the dogs don’t mind whatever the day throws at them, here’s what we’ve been up to…

Over the last couple of weeks we have been ranging the dogs out over rough ground, in water and over a lot greater distances.  We have been practising on direction and blinds.  All of the dogs are working well & really enjoying themselves.  We have been doing a lot of stop work with them & I am pleased to say they are brilliant at it.

Beneldys are also in the process of moving house ~ the dogs are excited because they can sense something is going on with all the boxes coming and going.  We hope it won’t distress Nellie too much who we hope is in pup, but she’s a sensible lass and it shouldn’t phase her at all.

We are really looking forwards to moving, it will give the dogs lots more space to run around and we will be able to some more training at home too.

Well that’s all for now, got to go!  We’ll keep you posted with our news very soon.

October Update ~ We’ve been up to a lot!

IMG_8334Daisy is now back training, in the peak of good health & fit as a lop! She is training with 3 of her pups, showing them how to do the job & they are all loving every moment. She has taken part in a few scurries at Game Fairs and been extremely fast, keen & straight onto the dummy. She is continuing her training and will be competing in some working tests shortly.

Ben is also going to be entered into some working tests soon, he is busy doing demonstrations with Daisy, Kim, & Aycer at the moment. Ben loves his work, he is more methodical than Daisy and is a thinker, he’s very good at working things out. He never misses a retrieve.
Purdy is a very fast, brave, girl with loads of character; she is smaller than the others so she can get through anything. She is the sort of dog that goes “till the cows come home”. Purdy just loves being a gun dog!

IMG_8870Kim has been furthering her training & is coming on wonderfully well. She is a natural and water is her favourite, she is totally fearless. Kim is a devoted dog, she never takes her eyes of me when training & she never misses a trick. She is one of a kind, a pleasure to own, is our little Kim.

Aycer, she is a little gem! From the start of her training she has been incredibly talented, she still makes few mistakes but it is like she was born to be trained. She is Ben’s half sister & so like him; a thinker, you can see them sat together working things out. Aycer is a steady methodical worker, just like Ben in this respect too, she loves her work with a passion.

IMG_8207Teal has been very busy. She has been gundog training, towards her show working certificate, and is a dream to train. Pheasant is her favourite game to retrieve. We are at shows with Teal most weekends. Teal gained her 3rd BEST OF BREED last week & has also qualified for Crufts again, that makes 4 times for next year’s show! We try to get out training with all the dogs at least 4-5 times a week. We take 2-3 at a time, so they can work either alone or with each other.

Nell, we very much hope is 2 weeks in puppy to sh.ch. LINDALL REDEMPTION, he is also Hettie’s sire.  Nell is still going to be carrying on as normal till she naturally slows down, she is fit & healthy & looks the picture of good health. Although she is a show dog, Nell loves obedience work and she also loves the dummy. Nell’s due date is 10th December so watch this space...

IMG_9251Hettie is 5 months old now, her first show is end of November. She is a wonderful puppy, sensible, calm, obedient & clever. You name it she is it! She is so easy to train because she listens so carefully, we hope she does as well as Teal has done.

Well that’s all for now, we just keep training & showing. Take care.
